What’s holding back our uptake of Electric vehicles and Solar?

We in Australia are very slow in our uptake of EV’s (electric vehicles) and solar technologies in comparison to other wealthy countries. What’s holding back our uptake of Electric vehicles and Solar?

According to Minister Josh Frydenberg, Federal Energy and Environment, the cost of electric vehicles (EV’s) and a lack of charging infrastructure are behind Australia’s relatively slow take-up of the cars not a lack of taxpayer-funded incentives, the federal government has argued as international research shows subsidies are the best way to fuel the transition away from fossil fuels.

Frydenberg  told a recent Energy Networks event, that price and a lack of national EV charging infrastructure are the main hurdles for electric vehicles growth in Australia and not his government’s lack of incentives which are common in all countries where electric vehicles are becoming popular. It seems we Aussie’s just don’t want money from our government!

You will eventually own an electric car, it is forecast there will be over one million on Australian roads within the next 10 years, and it may make sense to use the subsidy that is available to install your own solar carport. The subsidy is decreasing by around 5% each year but it is still enough to cover most of the $3000 it costs to install a solar carport kit. Once the kit is installed, it is easily upgraded with a battery and a charging point and you can then look forward to free fuel for life. It’s the only car shelter you are likely to  find that will eventually pay for itself while giving your car protection from the elements.

The International Energy Agency report found there were 436 publically available EV chargers in Australia in 2017, although only 40 of these were fast chargers.

Mr Frydenberg said despite this issues he still believes there will still be an exponential growth of EVs in Australia

The number of electric vehicles in Australia has grown slowly with few government subsidies.
