When we decided to open Car Covers and Shelters we wanted to showcase as many fantastic products as possib

We were also early up-takers of solar power in our own home, first with a solar hot water system and then with solar panels back in the good old days when solar installation grants were classed as “middle-class welfare!” We were given 66c per Kwh generated and the grants just about covered the installation costs. It was a “no-brainer” to get it installed but we had made the decision to ‘go-green’ before we knew about the wonderful offers at the time; it just made sense.

It also just made sense to offer a solar carport. We had seen them in Europe and with the advent of the electric car which we will all be driving soon, it just seemed like a “no-brainer” again to spend the money on a carport that would pay for itself and some, over time.

We were shocked to find that no-one in Australia was offering a solar carport for residential/domestic use! We tried every solar company listed in Google with a “dot au”, then we contacted manufacturers of solar frames. It is becoming quite common for companies to supply large commercial solar carports at places of work or even local shopping centres but no-one was prepared to design and sell to the Australian residential market. The idea of importing solar carport kits from Japan or China was also investigated but was just too hard to get them in under our Australian standards. Then “Powershade” came along and we were delighted to find that their market research and thought process was identical to our own – and so Car Covers and Shelters can now offer Australia’s first Solar Carport Kit.
